PortfolioSystem & Network Administration1996-1997 - I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I took charge of Softway International's IT operations. Softway International included Softway SA, software resellers and Internet providers, and Softway Systems. Sofway Systems was developing Interix (formerly known as OpenNT), a port of the POSIX environment to Windows NT. (Think of it as Unix running on Windows.) Interix was to be later bought out by Microsoft. And Softway's ISP activity was branched off into ISDNet, now owned by Cable & Wireless. A very successful company indeed, I am proud I got to be part of such a crack team and help them develop from very early on. My job at Softway involved acting as the primary point of IT expertise for the whole organization, planning and maintaining all of their computer systems (Windows 95 and NT, Unix BSD) and networks (Ethernet, TCP/IP, PPP). I was also Webmaster for their corporate sites, and various non-profit sites hosted on Softway's systems. I worked independently, reporting directly to the CEO, in a position crucial for the development of the company. |
